We often believe our circumstances need to change before we gain access to peace, joy, healing, calm, understanding. It’s entirely possible to create the life experience we want no matter what our circumstances are now, and in turn it’s entirely possible to create the life experience we don’t want, even if our life was going how we think it “should” go!
What are you waiting for? A new home? A different church calling? For someone else to change? A new job? A different season? A different body? A new family dynamic? Are you waiting for validation? Confirmation? Permission?
What if it was possible to create the feelings you want in the here & now?
Ask yourself this:
If I had __________, I would be __________.
If I had __________, I would (do) ________.
If I had __________, I would feel _________.
Mine might look something like this:
If I had a different church calling I would be… more needed in my ward.
If I had a different church calling I would… study my scriptures with more focus.
If I had a different church calling I would feel… more connected to my study & ward.
Seeing what I want to be, do & feel gives me the deeper desires behind the thing I *think* needs to change in order for me to have the life experience I want. When i take a step back, I can challenge these thoughts!
Are there other ways for me to serve & give in my ward? Could I study my scriptures with the same focus for myself vs for a lesson? Or to more fully participate in the class? Could I create deeper connections in my ward in the calling I currently have?
These are the starting point to digging deeper.
Take some quiet time this Sabbath & throughout the week to consider what is stopping you from feeling how you want to feel, and honestly consider how you can jump those barriers without changing any circumstances at all!
This week's encouragement:
I create peace in the here & now.
You are doing a really good job.
You are known.
You are loved!
